14:00 - Introduction and Welcomne

The RAS programme will, according to tradition, start with the Presidential Address delivered by Prof. Andy Fabian. This will be followed by the Presentation of RAS medals and awards.

14.05 - Awards Ceremony

Awards presented by Bob Chapman and Samantha Hickey.

  • The GOLD MEDAL FOR ASTRONOMY: will be presented to Professor David A. Williams, of University College London
  • The GOLD MEDAL FOR GEOPHYSICS: will be presented to Professor Eric Priest FRS, of St. Andrews University
  • The EDDINGTON MEDAL: will be presented to Professor James Pringle, of Cambridge University
  • The PRICE MEDAL: will be presented to Dr Malcolm Sambridge of the Australian National University
  • The JACKSON GWILT MEDAL: will be presented to Professor Peter Ade, of Cardiff University
  • The AWARD FOR SERVICE TO ASTRONOMY: will be presented to Professor Sir Arnold Wolfendale of the University of Durham
  • The AWARD FOR SERVICE TO GEOPHYSICS: will be presented to Dr David Kerridge of the British Geological Survey, Edinburgh
  • The GROUP ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: will be awarded to the SCUBA team (represented by Professor Colin Cunningham)
  • The FOWLER AWARD FOR ASTRONOMY: will be presented to Dr Sarah Bridle of University College London
  • The FOWLER AWARD FOR GEOPHYSICS: will be presented to Dr David Tsiklauri of the University of Salford
  • HONORARY FELLOWSIP: will be conferred on Professor Matthew Colless of the Anglo-Australian Observatory
  • HONORARY FELLOWSIP: will be conferred on Professor Bernard Schutz of the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics, Potsdam
