UKIDSS T dwarfs and the Galactic halo

About my research

Hello. My name's David Murray and I'm a PhD candidate with the University of Hertfordshire's Low-Mass Group. I am currently working on methods to identify and characterise metal-poor T dwarfs from the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey. In particular I'm seeking to find T dwarfs that belong to the Galactic halo population. As part of this work my collaborators and I have identified two kinematic halo-candidates, ULAS J0926+0835 and ULAS J1319+1209. In addition we have also re-selected the binary benchmark Hip 73786B, which is companion to the metal-poor K5 star Hip 73786A.
